A free AI agent that does your errands.
Romulus is a free, open-source AI agent that lives in a to-do list. Write a task the way you would tell a person, hand it to the Agent, and it goes and does it. It comes back only when it needs a decision, and nothing final happens without your yes.
What you can hand it
- Groceries. "Order this week's groceries from Walmart." It builds the cart, swaps what is out of stock, and waits at checkout.
- Shopping. Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Shopify stores, and any other store through a one-time Link card.
- Travel. "Find the cheapest flight to Denver the weekend of the 14th."
- Forms and applications. "Apply to these three internships." It fills the forms from your profile.
- Email. "Draft a reply to the landlord." You read it before it goes.
- Research. Comparisons and write-ups, plus a deep-research mode that splits the question so no single cloud AI sees all of it.
- Watch it work. A live browser you can see and take over at any point.
Why it is free
The app is MIT licensed and every installer is built from the public source. You bring the model: a free tier from Grok, Groq, Cloudflare, NVIDIA or OpenRouter's free models, a Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini plan you already pay for, or your own model through Ollama at no cost at all. Connect several and it tries them in your order.
It asks before anything final
The Agent never buys, sends, submits, books or deletes until you say yes to the exact thing it described, and that rule is enforced in code, not left to the model. The AI never sees a card number: stores use the card they have on file, and anywhere else it gets a one-time card for the amount you approved. Banking, medical records and passwords go only to your local model.
Questions
Is there a free AI agent that can do tasks for me?
Yes. Romulus is a free, open-source AI agent for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. You give it a task in plain words, such as ordering groceries or finding a flight, and it does the browsing, form filling and comparing, then asks you before anything is bought, sent or booked.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT or Claude plan to use it?
No. It works with free tiers from Grok, Groq, Cloudflare, NVIDIA and free models on OpenRouter, or a model you run yourself through Ollama. A paid plan you already have works too, and a stronger model handles long tasks better.
Can a free AI agent order groceries for me?
Romulus can. It builds a Walmart, Amazon or Target cart, tells you the total and delivery window, and places the order only after you say yes.
Is it safe to let an AI agent shop for me?
Romulus is built so the AI cannot finish a purchase on its own: buying, paying, sending and booking always wait for your yes, enforced in code. The AI never sees your card number.
Is the AI agent open source?
Yes. The whole app is on GitHub under the MIT license, and every release has checksums.
Does it run on my own computer?
Yes. It is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux with an Android app that stays in sync. What you connect stays on the computer you connected it on, and there is no telemetry.
